For Scouters and Volunteers planning their first rally or wanting to try something a little different. Here are some ideas that we've considered or things we've learned along the way.
Make the rally about fun and not about winning. Capture all of the winners discretely and present awards at a later date.
Create additional challenges for the Kars / Buggies / Trucks.
Run some heats with the cars facing backwards
Set a target area and see who can get their car to stop closest to the pin or in the "parking lot"
Laydown a long strip of painters tape on the floor and see who can go the farthest while staying closest to the line.
Take photos of all of the cars and allow your community to vote for their favourite car. (This helps with your Scouting group community involvement)
If you have a weight restriction and an accurate scale you can see who can get closets to the restriction without going over.
Line up School Gym benches or a number of chairs all along the track. Youth will sit and shuffle down towards the race gate. This helps with crowd control and can be used to organize heats better so the finishes are close no matter how fast the cars are.
Encourage youth to visit your pit crew. There may be parents of members of your community with skills and passion for hobby craft. They can help fix or make adjustments to the car for a recited promise, law or motto.
Don't forget to take lots of photos.
