Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers are responsible for building their own kits. Each kits is progressively more difficult per scouting section to challenge our youth and to develop wood working skills. That doesn't mean they won't need help. Family members, Volunteers, and Scouters are all encouraged to lend a hand and share their knowledge and experience with Scouting Youth to help them achieve their racing goals.
Racing is a big part of this activity, however we do recognize that there is more to these creations than just speed. This depends entirely on the host of the rally you attend but for example there may be additional categories such as:
Youth's choice best looking
Scouter's choice
Straight line driving
Ability to stop within a target
As soon as you receive your kit you can start building right away. 1st Bow Valley Scouts have been known to set aside meeting time to work with youth on assembling these kits.
Beavers: Can build and decorate their cars well within an hour. Scouters will encourage Beavers to work on their Buggies at home to fine tune them and maybe add some weights so their Buggies can make it down the long track.
Cubs: Several meetings may be scheduled for Cub Cars as within this age group youth are expected to learn more wood working skills by designing their car on paper, cutting, shaping, sanding, painting and assembling their own cars.
Scouts: The 18 wheeler Trucks will most likely require meeting and non-meeting time to complete these kits. At this age range it is expected that Scouts will manage their own time and projects to arrange access to necessary tools and materials to complete their Trucks.
Know the rules for your rally. Each rally can have their own rules but will be based off the general rules of each section. KNOW THE RULES!!!! You don't want all your time and effort to be disqualified because your kit is too tall, too long, too heavy or too wide or some detail specific to the rally you're attending.
Depending on your skill and experience try on scrap first. Kits are limited and one wrong cut can mean trouble if you're not careful.

Absolutely, but keep in mind Youth will have more fun knowing they built this kit as much as possible by themselves.
